Uganda's Political Landscape Heats Up: Museveni Confirms Re-election Bid Amidst Contentious Primaries
Uganda's political scene is buzzing with activity as President Museveni has officially confirmed his intention to seek re-election, aiming to extend his nearly four-decade rule. His announcement comes with a pledge to significantly boost the nation's economic growth.
Meanwhile, the ruling NRM party's primary elections are proving to be a hotbed of contention, marked by reports of clashes, injuries, and even a fatality at a rally. Police have issued warnings against candidates carrying firearms amidst the escalating tensions.
In the opposition, prominent figures are also making their moves, with some rejecting alliances and others announcing their presidential bids for the upcoming 2026 elections. Adding to the legal landscape, the Constitutional Court has made a notable decision to uphold polygamy.
